OliveNation's natural star anise extract is ideal for baked goods from a number of national and regional cuisines, especially in traditional Italian recipes. In baking, biscotti, pizzelle, pfefferneusse, peppernut cookies, and anise tuiles are all enhanced with this ingredient's distinctive flavor. Anise extract works well in both sweet and savory dishes, and blends well with spices like ginger, cloves, cinnamon, or nutmeg.
What is Anise Extract? Our PG free star anise extract is made from anise oil, alcohol, water, and glycerin. Extracts are concentrated flavoring agents that have been distilled from beans, nut oils, fruits, and spices that have been dissolved in an alcohol base. This natural anise extract can be used to add flavor to candy, beverages, specialty dishes, baked goods, and desserts.
What Does Anise Extract Taste Like? How can I use it?Anise extract tastes like black licorice, and is often used to flavor baked goods and desserts. It is a key ingredient in making biscotti, pfefferneusse, peppernut cookies, and pizzelle, and works great in many different cakes and cookies. Our commercial quality anise extract's distinctive flavor can also be used for flavoring a wide variety of vegetable dishes or to add another dimension to lamb and beef stews.
In order to get the best flavor possible from extracts, it's important to remember to close the bottle tightly after each use and store in a cool, dark location. These simple steps to help prevent evaporation and ensure that your extracts provide sensational flavor each and every time you use them.
Note: OliveNation extracts are stronger than typical grocery store extracts. Since our extracts are suspended in alcohol, they are best for recipes that are cooked or baked. For no-bake recipes, use one drop at a time until the desired level of flavor is reached. One or two drops can replace one whole star anise in your recipes. A few drops of anise extract can also replace ground or whole anise seed. One teaspoon of the extract is a great substitute for 1 to 2 tablespoons of anise liqueur in recipes.
